The film, by Bruce Ricker, comes out at a time that Jim Hall is experiencing a burst of creativity and the release of a slew of albums. The film deals with this sudden resurgence of his creativity as well as the history of this Jazz icon. Mr. Hall narrates his own life, with film footage of him playing with Jimmy Giuffre, Chico Hamilton, Sonny Rollins, and other performers, as well as glimpses of his domestic life with his wife and daughter. As he talks, he is measured in his self-assessment, and wryly funny. He is a reliable guide to his own career, and the film lets him tell most of his own story. A rare, personal glimpse into the life of one of the legends of Jazz!
