Southern Banjo Styles - Volume 2 - VHS Video

Mike Seeger continues his in-depth video lesson and demonstration of predominant banjo styles of the 19th and early 20th century with this new video. Volume 2 focuses on two- and three-finger techniques, some of which are the foundation for contemporary three-finger style. Each video segment features a complete performance of a song or tune, commentary on its style and source, and detailed split-screen instruction for playing it. This 90-min. video includes an accompanying booklet that contains standard notation and tab for the presented songs and detailed performance and informational notes. The material presented here is based on Mike Seeger's Grammy-nominated Smithsonian CD "Southern Banjo Sounds."

This VHS video is in NTSC format, and will play only in U.S. and Canadian VCR's. "Southern Banjo Styles - Volume 2 - VHS Video" weighs 10.88 oz.

This superb book contains a complete and thorough history of Gibson Les Paul guitars from 1958, 1959, and 1960. Written by vintage guitar expert Yasuhiko Iwanade, the cool thing about this book is the photography. This book contains approximately 1000 (one thousand!) full-color photographs of everyone's favorite guitar, the Gibson Les Paul sunburst models. Each guitar featured (close to 200 of them!) is shown with front and back photos of the headstock, front and back photos of the body and neck, and a side view of the body (to better show the sunburst finish).

Reviewer's note: This book was reviewed by a saxophonist, with little real interest in guitars. The reviewer spent nearly 2 hours admiring the guitars in this book before writing the review of the book. If a saxophone player liked the book this much, think how much you will like it! "The Beauty Of The 'Burst - Reference Book" weighs 33.92 oz.
